Took Some Photos

I recently bought a Sony A7 II (pictured above) that I loaded with a SEL2870 F3.5-5.6 28-70mm lens to start off with. I’ve disabled the video recording limit and sideloaded Sony’s now abandonware “apps” to it with ma1co’s OpenMemories: Tweak project, I won’t go into detail on that as it’s a fairly easy process (so long as you’re on Windows or Mac).

I went out on a Saturday and I had the whole day to find something to photograph. I started at Burkes Lookout to get some wide shots of the city, tried a panorama too which turned out well, though it looks like the camera did some post processing to it, mostly white balancing, that it didn’t do with the standard shots. Unfortunately, there seems to have been some dirt on my lens protector, guess I’ll have to go back some time and take the shot again. Oh well.

I had to race down the hill for an errand once I was done at Burkes and decided to hit 1000 Steps on my way going back up. I’m most fond of the pics of the forest, some of them would look fantastic (and very moody) in black and white.

Finally, I stopped off at Alfred Nicholas Memorial Gardens, it was fairly busy and I regrettably got a couple of shots with people in them, most of them seemed to be trying their best to move directly in front of me and stopping in my way for some reason. I’m very proud of how well the shots of my bike turned out, and the lens did reasonably well with the closer macro-esque shots of the flowers despite the lens being the way that it is.

All photos are unedited, just JPEG compressed. If anyone asks, I can publish the raw AVIF files here. If it wasn’t clear, the media here and any updates are licensed under the same CC BY-NC 4.0 license that the rest of this site is.

This is a little different from my usual stuff, though going forward I might just publish interesting photography on this site, we’ll see.
